The Children's Center Day Care was started by the United Methodist Women of First United Methodist Church.  It's mission is to provide children with a healthy, safe, varied, and stimulating environment so that they can grow socially, physically, and intellectually.  They promote equality early learning through developmentally appropriate activities and projects.

The Children's Center is a non-denominational, not-for-profit day care center sponsored by First United Methodist Church.  It provides a multi-cultural atmosphere with activities that help children learn and explore their world.  Our teachers are warm and caring  and provide a diverse environment.

The Center has a large playground adjacent to the building.  During inclement weather they have access to the church fellowship hall for large motor activities.  In addition to the many activities available on site the children also visit local parks, the Urbana Free Library, and use the MTD for many field trips in the community.  They also enjoy short walking excursions.

The hours for the Children's Center are 7:30am - 5:30pm, Monday through Friday. The phone number for the Children's Center is 217-367-0842.  The Children's Center is run by a Committee composed of parents, staff, and church members.  The committee insures that the children are provided with safe and developmentally appropriate care. The director of the Children's Center is Evelyn Denzin.

Fees are based on a sliding scale according to the child's age, family size and family income.

The Children's Center has an excellent menu of "home-cooked" nutritious meals and snacks.  They promote good eating habits by using natural, home cooked foods that minimize additives, sugars, and processing.

Each child is provided with a balanced breakfast, hot lunch and afternoon snack daily.

The Center also participates in the Child Care Food Program under the direction of the Department of Agriculture.

One of the favorite meals at the Center is the Thanksgiving Lunch.  The meal includes Turkey, stuffing, real mashed potatoes and gravy, sweet potatoes, green beans, cranberry sauce and homemade hot rolls.  The children work together to make the desert for the day - pumpkin pie.

Children's Day Care Center is Licensed by the Department of Children and Family Services.  All of the teachers are trained in child development and early childhood education.  In addition the teachers receive yearly in-service training.  There is a very low staff turn-over rate.  Children are accepted between the ages of 15 months and 5 years.

If you have questions about the Center or are interested in visiting please contact Evelyn Denzin at 367-0842 or [email protected].
