Myeong Hwan Caleb Lee
I am Caleb Lee, born in 1976 at Seoul Korea. I grew up in the big city, so I had a lot of fun and influential activities in music as I participated in my home church choir. Before I had my voice change, I was an alto (pretty good one!). While I was studying at Seoul Theological University for my bachelor degree (church music in voice and piano) and master (church music and theology), I met Carol Anne Mitchell, a church music professor who taught me church music as an amazing instrument for worship.
From 2001 to 2005, I was active as her assistant. Not only was she a wonderful musician, she was also a faithful Christian who had the mind of Christ. Her life has had a powerful impact on my life so far.
Before I came to UIUC and UMC-Urbana, I received a Master Degree of Music at the University of North Texas (choral conducting and early music in voice). While I studied in Denton, Texas, God gave us two awesome daughters —Lynn (2007) and Yelina (2009).
Now I am pursuing my doctorate in choral conducting and literature at the School of Music of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. I am the happiest man on the earth because I live with my beautiful, wise wife Mira and lovely kids, Lynn & Yelina. I have enjoyed being in the Champaign Urbana area so far.
