Our pastor, Steve Anderson, is from Centralia, IL. His call into ministry began when he was in high school; and he started his ministry in Humboldt, IL in 1974. In 1975, he graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a B.A. in Psychology. In 1978, he graduated from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary (GETS). In 1983, he received his Doctor of Ministry degree from GETS. His area of study was “Motivation and Volunteerism as It Relates to the Ministry of the Laity.” He served congregations from 1974 – 1986. From 1986 – 1992 he directed the Outdoor Ministries of the United Methodist Churches of the Central Illinois Conference for two years and the North Indiana Conference for four years.
In 1992, he changed courses from ministry to real estate and worked as a Broker and Certified General Real Estate Appraiser in the Springfield, IL area. He also worked as a fund raiser for the American Cancer Society. He is certified by Purdue and Indiana University as a Certified Fund Raising Manager. In 2002, he felt called back into ministry.
Steve and Jill married in 2005. She had been living in Urbana for twenty-three years at that time. Steve was a widower and Jill had been divorced for twelve years. They have six grown children and three grandchildren. Jill grew up in Iowa and Wisconsin, and graduated college in Eau Claire, WI, with a degree in Medical Laboratory Technology. She has worked as a Medical Technician since 1978 and has been at Christie Clinic on University Avenue since 1986.
Steve enjoys wood working, reading, fishing, and playing his Mountain Dulcimer. Jill enjoys cooking, baking, reading and being with family. They enjoy traveling and have been to a variety of places throughout the U.S. and Mexico. They honeymooned in Alaska.
