I am Hanah Choi, pianist/organist of Urbana First. I was born in Korea and studied there until I got my bachelor degree in Piano Performance at Seoul National University. Then I came to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign for my master in Piano Performance in 2010, and am currently pursuing Doctor of Musical Art in Performance and Master in Piano Pedagogy.
I grew up with church music since all of my parents and grandparents sung in the choir. We sometimes sang some old hymns at home: my grandma especially loved singing with my piano accompanying. So playing church music means a lot to me; it is my joy to worship God and also reminds me of my family.
I had played for several churches since 2004, and joined the First United Methodist Church in 2015. I’m so glad that I became the part of this beautiful church. Everyone in the church is nice, warm-hearted and welcoming!
Besides playing piano, I enjoy reading, swimming, walking/running outside and hiking.
